Yes, it has been a while since I have posted on the blog, I know, I know. We're still around and doing well. Just been busy little bees, but certainly enjoyin life. Here are some pics from when part of my family was down visiting us in Sunny Sarasota over the holidays. Good times as always.

Another Tradition: Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom. Not sure who enjoys it more, the big kids or the little kids. Truth be told, we ALL enjoy it.

Avery had his Christmas Program at school yesterday morning and it was simply ADORABLE. The director made a nice speech before the children sang and she stated "what these kids did in practice may be completely different than what they do today", and I am certain she was correct in saying that.

Time flies when you're having fun............and Landon Bradley is one fun, little dude, that's for sure!!! He just turned 9 months old. Im not sure what has gone faster, the 9 months I carried him or the 9 months he has been boppin' around in the real world with us. Just like his big brother, he his long for his age and is 18 lbs of pure JOY!!!

Its getting funner each year. Dressing up, trick or treating, eating TONS of candy and carving pumpkins. Thats what this time of year is about. This year Avery dressed up as the Transformer Optimus Prime (his pick) and Landon dressed up as Batman. They both looked super cool in their costumes. (in typical Alcala fashion, we kept tradition going) We had the Bresters over and had a neighborhood cookout. We ate good food, drank yummy sangria and then, we were on our way to get as much candy as the chitlins could. Last year, Jadyn and Avery tried to keep up with the other kids. This year......they were the leaders of the pack.

Landon Bradley is 8 months old!!! Already???

Our little Landon B, Butter Ball, Baby B, Beezers, Wittle Brudder, is already 8 months old. Gosh, the time just flies. Below are 2 pictures on his 8 month birthday. Call it cruel, I had to share both pics.

Another tradition!!! Last weekend we attended the Pumpkin Festival with the Brester family. This has been a tradition since we all now have chitlins. Its a great time and so neat to see how much more the kids like it each year. Jadyn and Avery are dragging the parents through the patch as Jaxon and Landon cruise around in their strollers without a care in the world. Mid 80s and windy was the forecast for the day and WINDY IT WAS!!!

Today was "silly sock" day at Avery's preschool. They are learning the letters of the alphabet and .........you guessed it, they are learned about the letter "S". Avery was super excited to show Miss Tami (his teacher) his silly socks. See below: Daddy surprised us with taking the afternoon off work so we picked Avery up from school and went to McDonalds for ice cream.

What a great pleasure it is to observe our two children interacting with one another. Avery's personality is well-developed and Landon's personality seems to be showing its true colors more and more everyday. Landon truly enjoys watching Avery play and act silly and of course this encourages Avery to act even MORE silly as Landon belly laughs at him. Avery already does a great job at being big brother. He is very gentle with Landon and knows exactly what to do to "make Wandon happy." The other evening I was in the kitchen making dinner while the boys were playing in the family room. Upon glancing out to check on them, this is what I found:

This was the sweetest thing to observe. I quickly grabbed my camera, captured the moment and let the 2 of them continue their game of ball.

Avery's First Day of Preschool ! ! !

WOW!!! This day came a lot faster than I ever could've imagined. We started researching preschools for Avery in January, and at that time September seemed SO. FAR. OFF!!! Here it is September 6th and the triple A bomber is 3 1/2 years old and ready for the next step in life.

We found his preschool at the referral of our dear friends and fell in love with it the minute we walked through the doors to tour the place. Then, we met several of the teachers, toured the school itself, asked several questions and from that point on, we knew this was the place for Avery to start his school career.

Here's how our first day of preschool went.

Avery was SUPER stoked about his Cars lunchbox and wants to carry it with him everywhere. Just woke up, jammies still on and Blue's Clues was his cartoon of choice.

Part of our morning routine: Avery feeds Josey and sits with him while he "eats his dinner."

Whoa, Sunny Sarasota? Yes, you are!!! Pardon the glare on Daddy's face while he helps Avery out of the car.

In his classroom, with Ms. Amy (teacher's assistant). He's learning where he needs to put his name card everyday.

And, after that, Mommy, Daddy and Landon had to say our goodbyes. We kept them short, sweet and to the point. Not a single tear shed (well, none by Avery at least). He was more than excited to be there.

Although he gets to eat his lunch at school, we still went to Chik Fil A afterwards for icecream and playtime. We met his "big sisters" there and this was such a treat for him after his first day at preschool.

Its Friday Night. High School football has begun. "Avery, do you wanna go see a football game with me, Uncle Pat and Jadyn?" says Daddy. "Of course," says Avery. So, off they go. Landon and I spent the night together snuggling and bonding while Daddy and Avery went to have a pizza party and to cheer on the Riverview Rams!!!

The Mohawk was a MUST!!! "Football players don't smile, mom."

Football season is here!!! This household LOVES football. We are Redskins fans and of course, Tampa Bay Bucaneer Fans. This past Sunday we had a practice run with the football attire. Next Sunday we will go full force with the jerseys, traditional Chili in the ol' crockpot and my ever-so-famous chips and guacamole dip. It's tradition. We would also welcome a few degrees cooler in the weather, but for now, we're just happy the NFL is back in full swing. Whew!!!

This jersey and hat was once worn by the A-Bomber. Now, Landon B. gets the luxury of sporting the skins' wear!!!

After having Avery, we learned that kids grow up soooo fast. We heard it a dozen times by strangers, friends and family. Then, we saw for ourselves, that they REALLY do change hourly and grow up too fast right before our own eyes. Now we are seeing it with Landon, yet it seems to go even FASTER with the 2nd baby. PLEASE. STOP. THE. CLOCK. Landon is 6 months old today. Below is our "timeline" with Landon, A.K.A "Butterball," A.K.A, "Beezer Baby," A.K.A "Baby Wandon" as his big brother calls him.

Our little Butter Ball is ready for his baptism. We had Avery baptised around 5 1/2 months too, so Landon wore the exact same outfit Avery wore for his baptism. (Landon filled it out a bit more). Landon's Godparents are Megan and Javier. They were both here for the special occasion and we had a great day celebrating together with such close friends.

A Night out in Sunny Sarasota

Let me first say that these pictures are posted in reverse order. Instead of viewing them as the night went on, you will be viewing them from the end of the night to the beginning of the night. Why? Because that's how they uploaded and I don't want to take the time to change them around. If you get confused, well, don't worry, we were all a bit confused by the end of the night ourselves. 19 of us got together, rented a party bus and made an appearance at several bars/nightclubs in downtown Sarasota. Meg and Vance were ready to see what Sarasota had to offer and Sarasota was ready to see what Meg and Vance had to offer. I think both parties were impressed with what they saw.

The last few days have been spent in Ft. Myers, Florida with my brother and his family. We had a great time and truly enjoyed watching the four cousins interact and see how funny they act when they're together. We only wished they lived closer. (I'm sure they wished they lived closer too seeing as they were getting frost at home while they were visiting the sunshine state.)

Rico is off work, its extremely hot outside and there's a cute new movie showing at Hollywood 20!!!! This calls for a family night to the movie theater. After we first had Avery and Rico was working, I would load Avery up and go the movies (yes, just AAA and I) So, technically this wasn't his first trip to the movie theater, but for all intensive purposes, it was!!! We saw the movie "Rio" and we all enjoyed it.

Avery and his popcorn.....What? You don't think he had enough? Well, popcorn and soda was dinner for the night!!!

Hmmm.....what to order for dinner??? So much candy and health foods to chose from!!!

Triple A turns 3

Avery Alexander Alcala a.k.a Triple A, just turned 3 on April 10th. I can now say that I fully understand what people mean when they say "kids grow up so fast." It amazes me how quickly kids change and how in the blink of an eye they are walking and talking. How in the world is Avery getting ready to start preschool in the fall??? If someone can find out how to stop the clocks and slow down the calendar, please let me know!!! Below are pictures from his 3rd birthday party. Avery is a HUGE Toy Story fan, so that was the theme of his party this year. The Cake: Mommy, Daddy, Landon and........... birthday boy vanishes before the picture is taken.

Here are some miscellaneous pictures taken in the month of March. All is well in the Alcala household. Rico is keeping busy with work and I am keeping busy with 2 boys, trips to the park, playdates, doctors appointments and all that goes along with a newborn and a busy toddler. But don't fool yourself, I'm not THAT busy.....Landon is still in that phase where he sleeps...and then sleeps....and then when he's done doing that, he sleeps some more. (this baby sleeps ANYWHERE) A typical day for Landon: Eat, sleep, poop, pea. Eat, sleep, poop, pea. Life is easy!!! (asleep in pak n play) Meanwhile, Daddy and Mario take Avery to a Baltimore Orioles spring training game. They all 3 had a blast.

Did I mention that all he does is eat, sleep, poop and pea? (asleep in bouncy seat)

Oh look, he's awake!!! He is already 1 month old. Hey clock, could you slow down please!!! (awake in crib)

Watching daddy play softball on Sundays are always a lot of fun!!!

Landon Bradley Alcala has arrived!!!

Landon Bradley Alcala made his appearance February 22, 2011 at 7:15 a.m. He weighed 7lbs, 13 oz and was 20 inches long. We truly feel so blessed to have another healthy, happy baby boy.

Headed to the hospital to have a birthday party!!!

We have been preparing for and anticipating the arrival of Baby Boy #2 and that time is drawing near. As we look back it seems that time has FLOWN by. I am currently 37 weeks along and it amazes me to think we are going to have another little guy around here to love on and play with. We have been taking pictures along the way and they are posted below for your viewing pleasure!!!

11 weeks....... starting to feel "normal" again.....well, kinda

20 weeks.......feeling baby move, we now know Avery is going to have a baby BROTHER!!!

26 weeks......ready for Thanksgiving......and anxious to meet our new baby boy.

30 weeks.........ready for Christmas and anxious to meet our new baby boy.

34 weeks............Holidays are over and anxious to meet our new baby boy.

37 weeks........feeling great........a bit crammed for space............anxious to meet our new baby boy.

As this pregnancy almost draws to a close I look back and feel greatful for a smooth, happy and healthy pregnancy. And, as you can conclude, we are all ready to meet Baby Boy. Avery is ready to be a big brother!!!! We'll keep y'all posted as BB#2 makes his grand appearance.

The Christmas season has come and gone quicker than we could ever imagine. We kep telling ourselves it will fly by, so let's enjoy EVERY minute of it. We did just that. Mimi and Papa were here for the holidays. We feel very fortunate that they're able to spend the Christmas with us and share the excitement that we experience each year, especially now that Avery is getting older and a new baby coming.

Christmas morning - excited to see what Santa brought. Yes, Avery is enjoying a sucker at 7:30 Christmas morning while he realizes there is a John Deere Gator in our living room.

Jadyn and Avery's Gift Exchange!!!

Another Christmas tradition.....BFFs exchange gifts. These 2 are like peas in a pod and watching them together whether it be riding bikes, sharing (or not sharing) bubbles, opening gifts or having lunch is truly hilarious and sweet all at the same time. Right before Christmas we get together with the Bresters for Christmas dinner and to open gifts. In past years, it has been the adults getting together, throwing back several cocktails and opening gag gifts from each other. As times have changed, we get together, have a nice meal, enjoy a cocktail or 2 and watch the kids open gifts. It has only gotten better (and more sober).

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party 2010

The Christmas season brings so much excitement to our family. We have already developed so many memories and started many traditions to continue throughout the years as our family expands and the children get older. This year was our first time to experience Disney World at Christmas time, and my oh my, was it something to experience!!! We ventured to the Magic Kingdom with the Bresters to attend "Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party". During the day, Magic Kingdom felt just like the Magic Kingdom....lots of rides, lots of characters, good eats, fun treats and lots to explore. At night, the Magic Kingdom seemed like an entire different place. The Christmas decorations, lights, and overall experience was like no other. It was simply MAGICAL. The weather was chilly, but we were well prepared for it and it only added to the experience.

Its THAT time of year again. CHRISTMAS TIME!!! Avery is to the point where is starting to understand "Santa Claus"and it makes for tons of fun during the holidays. Saturday was the annual Downtown Sarasota Christmas Parade. As tradition would have it, we loaded up the kids, the lawn chairs and headed downtown with the Bresters for Dinner at Barnacle Bills then outside to watch the parade. The weather was PERFECT, which added to the success of the night.

Back by popular demand: MICKEY MOUSE!!! This is part 3 of 3 for Halloween 2010...the actual trick or treating. Avery had the entire concept down pat. We told him the plan and he implemented it. Look cute, get lots of candy and run your hiney from house to house saying "Trick or Treat". He did just that.

A little Halloween cookout at our neighbors across the street then off to get "dessert" from all the neighbors. Hey, Reeses peanut butter cups and kit kats make GREAT dessert.

Halloween Hunt at Colonial Oaks Park

And.......the Halloween Festivities are in full swing. This morning we had a Halloween Hunt/Costume Contest/Candy Party at the park in the neighborhood where we live. Avery is VERY into Mickey Mouse this year. He took his first trip to Disney World and LOVES to watch the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. How perfect for him to dress up as Mickey Mouse, we thought? And where there's Mickey, there's Minnie. Who better to be his partner in crime than Jadyn herself.

Hayride at The Founder's Club

Friday night we were invited to attend a hayride at The Founder's Club. The weather turned out to be beautiful. Avery was a bit hesitant at first to ride the hayride ALL BY HIMSELF, but a few minutes into it, mommy was given the "ok" that he is ready to do it alone.

"See mom, I can do this all by myself. You go ride in the golf cart with Uncle Pat."

Make their way to someone's front door in search of some MORE candy.

"Mommy, wook, wook. (look, look) I got CANDY!!!" He was so excited about the candy he was given. Seeing the excitement in his eyes was as sweet as the excitement in that Snickers bar.

"Hmmmm, I've got M&Ms AND a Twix. What to eat first???"

I think all the chocolate has him in a trance by now.

Avery and Jadyn make their way up to ANOTHER house. More chocolate? Why not?

Get ready kids, we're about to start movin' again.

Saturday we went to Sun - N - Fun for their last "Horrah" of the season. The weather is still pool/beach weather here. Late October and STILL hot enough to swim? Yes!!! Are we ready for some cooler weather, however? Yes!!!

Our "Tuesday" Activity

Each day of the week I have a scheduled activity for Avery. Tuesdays we go to Rosaire's Riding Academy where Avery can watch those taking horseback riding lessons, play at the petting zoo, take pony rides and get a good dose of "work" in. As a mother, it is truly rewarding to watch your child learn and explore and do new things as his mind expands.

He is quite the climber.....he will climb on ANYTHING....including this stack of logs.

Gaylord Palms

August 11th - 15th was spent at the Gaylord Palms Resort in Orlando, Florida. I posted tons of pics, so I'll leave the narration to a minimum. Hope you enjoy the pics as much as we enjoyed our trip.

After dragging mommy out of bed and daddy finished his coffee, off to the pool we were.

But, a quick stop at a koi pond first.

Notice there is NOONE in the pool yet....need I mention again how early it was?

And this right here became Avery's highlight of the trip. A water slide that looked like a giant octopus and his tongue was the slide.

We went from Orlando to Key West for the day. Haha. No, we didn't. Different areas of the resort represented different areas of Florida. This section was called "Key West" Im sure everyone has seen this scene before. This ain't the real one, though!!!

More Water Activities in the Sun, Why Not?

Previously stated: there is tons of stuff to do here in Sarasota. Below is yet, another activity we chose to do while Papa was here. We visited the YMCA Splash Park. Avery has turned into quite the little fishy this summer and LOVES being in the water. This splash park is a child's Heaven. As soon as we pulled into the parking lot and AAA saw the slides and fountains and pool he started squealing in excitement and asking for his BFF Jadyn. What would a trip to the water park be like without Jadyn? Besides, Avery, Papa and Jadyn all got along so well together.

Avery and Papa stand under the mushroom. Not sure who had MORE fun here, Avery? Papa? It was a close tie.

Beach Buddies!!!

Who comes to Florida and doesn't go to the beach? Surely not Papa. He couldn't resist the opportunity to go to the beach with AAA and build sand castles. Avery has become quite the beach bum. He has no fear of the water, loves digging in the sand and even tries to chase the DAMNED birds that hang out on the beach. Yes, "THOSE" birds that the locals HATE and the tourists LOVE.

"Now, Papa, just follow me. This water ain't cold and I'll show you how deep we can go and still be safe. Trust me, Im a regular here." says Avery

"Allow me to show you the intricacies of building sand castles. Scoop and dump, scoop and dump. Don't be afraid, the sand will wash off." Avery is so sure of himself.

Just Chillin' at the Home Front

After a hot morning of biking and hiking, a cool dip in the pool was a MUST....perhaps even an afternoon nap on the raft was in order. Let's check with Papa.

"Can we get you another Sangria, perhaps turn the music quieter, or just let you sleep?" (he was feeling NOTHING other than the cool refreshing water and the sun bronzing his skin.)

After Avery wakes from HIS nap, he decides to climb Mountain Bob. This was a reoccurring activity this week. Yes, even notice Avery's pants falling down. Didn't stop him for a SECOND from climbing.

And.....at the end of the day, we were all ZOMBIES!!! Milk and stories with Papa calls for a good night's sleep. (Papa, this requires you to get off your phone)

More Family Bonding at Myakka State Park

There are ENDLESS amounts of things to do here in Sarasota. One thing we wanted to do that Dad/Papa has never done was to visit Myakka State Park. We both enjoy being outside, being active and working up a sweat. You see, right now in Florida, all you have to do to "work up" a sweat is simply open your door and walk outside for 5 seconds. Really, its that easy. Anyhow, we loaded up bikes, packed a picnic lunch and went to Myakka State Park for the morning. We did some hiking, biking, picnicing and "exploring".....one of Avery's favorite things to do.

Papa and AAA have a pep talk before we start our hike. May I mention that Avery walked the ENTIRE distance that Papa and I walked. Who's in better shape? Avery? Papa? Mommy? It's a toss up.

"Do you think I could climb this tree?"

Walking across a suspension bridge that leads to a tower that is 76 feet high. Avery leads the way.

We made it!!! At the top of the tower. Avery climbed every step of it. This is a view from the top.

Papa and his little buddy take a break. That was a long hike up there, but we DID IT!!!

Back down to the bottom. It was slightly easier going DOWN the tower than going UP the tower.

Time for some grub. We were all STARVING and a bit parched.

"Don't worry boys, I won't interrupt your eating, CHOW DOWN!!!"

Papa's In Town!!!

Duty Calls!!! Rico has to be out of town all week for a work conference in California, so this leaves Avery and me home all alone (bottom lip puckers out, pouty face comes on, boo hoo). In the meantime, Papa Pancoast is retired and so is his brother Bob. So, they bought plane tickets, packed a bag and headed south to keep Avery and me company. In the meantime, Mimi Pancoast had plans to be in Chicago with all of her siblings, so while she headed north, Papa headed south. We have kept rather busy. Avery has been our 24 hour entertainment. One of the main attractions was our trip to play in the fountains at the marina. Avery and I have been there several times, but we wanted Papa and Bob to see what all the hype was about.

All the chitlins stand by as the drain gets cleaned.

Buckets and more buckets of water.....all the better to soak you with.

Papa and Bob take it all in. (I'm sure they were secretly wishing they had their swim trunks on.)

Avery sneaks out to the couch early in the morning to wake up Papa.

The "Dreamy Lens"

"Let's load up and meet at the park." This is a common phrase that comes out of your mouth often once you have a toddler. What do you need to "load up?" Most would need a snack, some water and perhaps a ball to kick around. In the life of Carol Piersoll, "load up" means those items mentioned previously but ALSO her new fancy camera. This is a necessity. This camera must be similiar to oxygen for most people. But, make no mistake about it. I commend her for her "toy". She captures some of the BEST moments. (Refer to blog post dated 04/02/10 for tons of other pictures she has taken). Anyhow, Carol recently purchased a new lens for her camera that she claims is "dreamy". See for yourself below. I agree, Carol. Your new lens is "dreamy."

A Night at The Founders Club

Saturday night was spent at The Founder's Club with some good friends, good food, a cool bounce house and thunder, lightening and rain!!! The rain didn't stop us from having fun and more importantly it didn't stop the kiddos from bouncing in the rain in the bounce house. Oh, to be a kid again!!!!

Birthday Celebration....or Something like That!!!

Where do I begin? (hmmmm, millions of thoughts and memories race through my mind) Well, I will just give a brief introduction and let the pictures tell the rest of the story. Yesterday was Pat's Birthday and so of course we needed to celebrate. However, in the mind of Pat Brester, come strong or don't come at all. Needless to say, we came strong!!! We rented a party bus, got tickets for the Rays vs White Sox game and off we were.

A Visit to Bonita Springs!!!

Some of our BEST FRIENDS from college are vacationing in Bonita Springs, Florida this week. They invited us down for a visit to enjoy some of their vacation with them. We jumped at the chance to see them and their twin girls again. See, this time last year, they were also at Bonita Springs in the same condo but the situation was different. Avery was barely a year old and Megan was pregnant with twins. Now, Avery is a walking and talking machine and the twins are 6 months old and changing everyday.

As I mentioned earlier, this is our 2nd trip to Bonita Springs with them. In fact, we ate at the same pizza place as we ate at last year. This year, party of 7. Last year, party of 4 and 1/2.

Great times were had by all. Memory Lane was visited, lots of laughs were had, some drinks were consumed, diapers were changed, early wake up calls by children were available, but most importantly, its FANTASTIC to still be so close to such great people and watch how our lives have changed. We'll look forward to see the Catlin family again over Labor Day weekend as well as all of the other TriDelts. Can't imagine what that weekend will bring. Chicago, WATCH OUT!!!

Love at First Sight, smell and sound

Are there particular songs that remind you of certain places or certain people? Are there certain memories you have as a child that you will NEVER forget and hope you can provide those same types of memories for YOUR children? What about certain places that always put a smile on your face? To some, it may be the mall, the football field, a certain person's house or perhaps a certain vacation spot. Well, living in Florida puts a smile on my face. As a child, we traveled to Florida several times for family vacation. Most of the time it was with "just family" and sometimes we were each allowed to bring a friend. We vacationed to different locations: Marco Island, Ft. Myers, Orlando, Destin, etc.

I have many fond memories of these trips to Florida. We spent a Christmas in Florida once and Santa Claus even found us there. I learned to swim while in Florida. I bought 1 of my prom dresses while in Florida. I even remember a trip to the beach where my dad and I went on a walk and he bought me an ice cream cone (revert back to 6 years of age....how excited did YOU get over an ice cream cone?) Most houses we stayed in had a screened in pool. I remember how COOL it was for my mom to stand in the kitchen and hand me a cold lemonade thru the window that went from the kitchen to the pool area. Then, she would walk straight out to the pool from the family room. "This is the life," I thought.

Certain songs such as Born in the USA, Glory Days, Forever in Blue Jeans, Sweet Caroline, Roam; all remind me of being in Florida with my family. I still enjoy watching family videos of times when we were in Florida.

Well, as fate would have it......We now LIVE in Florida and I feel so lucky everyday. We have been here 8 years and I can admit that the palm trees, quick trips to the beach, views of the Gulf and the surplus of "things" to do have NOT gotten old.

I still think it's a crazy concept that we live on the EDGE of the country.....literally.

Here we are, years and years later and we are LIVING in Florida and I am walking from my living room to the pool to hand OUR son a cold drink.

My, oh my. I am learning quickly how fast time flies. Watching Avery grow up has taught me that it is TRULY important to sit down, smell the roses and enjoy life, otherwise, it will pass you up in a hurry.

It's A Must!!!

The addition problem we were given for the week : Husbands are off this weekend + hot and sunny weather + warm water temperatures + good friends on hand (who also happen to know where to rent a great boat for great prices) and what do you come up with? This equals (=) An all day Saturday on the Gulf of Mexico via 21 foot boat. Well, at least that's the best solution Jamie and I came up with.

We packed coolers, blew up rafts, put on our suits and OFF we were for a day of fun with Pat, Jamie and Jadyn and to meet up with our neighbors, Ivette, Mike and their girls on their boat.

I'm just sayin'

I try to be a very positive person and find the positive vs the negative in a situation. So, please make note that I am not being "negative" by my post today. I am more or less just being honest, and possibly funny??? Offensive to some? But I truly am annoyed (I say that with a smile on my face) with certain words I hear over and over and over again.

The first word is "Prego". It really makes my skin crawl when someone claims to be "prego" Really? Are you a jar of spaghetti sauce? Poor thing. The truth is, girls can be come "pregnant" so I wish people would just call it that. (as I laugh to myself)

The word "like". When this word becomes every other word in a person's sentence my ears coincidently become deaf. Seriously, take a few seconds, gather your thoughts, then speak.

The word "Bestie" Yes, this word is highly annoying to me as well. It makes me think of the musical group "The Beastie Boys" But, then I quickly realize you are referring to a person, not a musical group.

So, now that you all know what words drive me CRAZY, you can think of me EVERYTIME you use them. Good day to all!!!

CBS - Tears of Fear to Tears of Joy

Last day of CBS. Wow, that went fast. What is CBS, you ask? CBS stands for Community Bible Study. This is a Bible study class that takes place on Wednesday mornings from 9:30 - 11:30 and coincides with the Sarasota County School schedule. There are weeks of vacation where we don't have class, no class during holiday seasons, no class during spring break, etc. This is designed for mothers AND their children to meet and well, study the Bible. The children are in classes of their own and the mothers are split up into classes as well. We signed up for this to benefit both Avery and I. I figured I could benefit by learning and discovering more about the Bible while Avery is in his own class playing and sharing with other kids. One day a week, can't be bad, right?

As I mentioned earlier, this schedule goes along with the county school schedule, so today was our last "school day" of the year and it went unbelievably fast. I am very glad I chose to partake in such a fantastic group. See, 9 months ago when CBS started for the year I had never been involved in a Bible study and Avery had never been without me. WHAT? Yes, Avery and I are together ALL THE TIME, so dropping him off in a class WITHOUT me was traumatic for both of us. Go ahead, roll your eyes, laugh out loud, do what you need, but this is the truth. Luckily, Avery's Godmother Jamie and his very best friend Jadyn are also involved in CBS so they were there to wipe Avery's and mommies tears away the first few weeks. As Jadyn stood there ready to play and Avery was kicking and screaming, Jamie was dragging me out of the class saying "He's gonna be fine." That was 9 months ago.

Today, as I dropped him off in class he ran for toys before I could even kiss him goodbye or start to shed a tear. Whew, what a long way we have both come!!! It's truly amazing to watch children change and grow up.....TOO FAST.....in front of our own eyes.

Cheers to a great "school year" and and AWESOME summer break ahead of us!!!

Mother's Day 2010

Sometimes it still amazes me to think that "I am a mother." How did this happen. Well, I have figured out how it happened, but geez, I like to think of myself still as a child....sometimes. Anyhow, those of you that are mothers know what a great thing motherhood is. It is rewarding, challenging, beneficial, fun, exciting and simply one of the best feelings ever. One thing I thought about and kinda "realized" this year on Mother's Day is the fact that although Avery just turned 2, this is my 3rd Mother's Day of being a mom. He was born right before Mother's Day in 2008, just turned 1 in 2009 and just turned 2 in 2010, making this my 3rd Mother's Day. Sunday was a fabulous day. Rico, Avery and I spent the day together: Church, Brunch, swim, layout, nap, snack, swim, dinner, play in yard, swim, bath, then bedtime. Whew!!! It was a fun, busy, enjoyable day for all!!!

Chu Chu!!!

Chu, chu!!! Do you hear the train coming? Well, perhaps you can't hear it from where you are sitting, but if you are in our living room you SURE CAN. For Avery's 2nd birthday we bought him a Thomas the Train set. Its HUGE, FUN, EXCITING and well, takes up a large portion of our family room. But, WHO CARES??? This is what having kids is all about.....toys, fun, messes and using their imagination. However, this train track came with everything but the train table. So, being the creative, handy dandy parents that we are (wink, wink) we took it upon ourselves to build a table for Thomas to ride on. See below for the "start to finish" project of Thomas the train and train table.

Started out with a piece of plywood. Gosh, hope there aren't any hurricanes brewin' out there. This plywood was taken from our hurricane plywood stash. (not really, quit believing everything I say)

Covered it with felt and added the legs (yes, we painted the legs)

Added a ledge to hold it all together (yes, we painted the ledge too) Kinda starting to look like a pool table, but wait, put the 8 ball away, it AIN'T a pool table.

WOW!!! The finished product. That is one GINORMOUS train track.

This project was well worth our time and effort. Avery and his friends (yes, this includes daddy) play with it everyday. Its neat to see their imagination working and exploring with this new piece of "family room furniture".

A Day in the Life of Avery (and Mommy)

Good morning Sarasota and good morning to all of our faithful blog readers. We appreciate you coming to our blog to see just exactly what we are up to on a daily basis, perhaps a weekly basis and sometimes a monthly basis. We are busy that's for sure. Well, we try to keep busy at least. Avery and I are very fortunate in the fact that we get to stay home together everyday. But, that statement isn't entirely true because we don't "stay at home everyday." In fact, I make great effort to make sure he and I have something planned everyday. Whether it be a trip to the park, visit to the beach, a playdate at a friends house or a playdate at our house, etc, we keep busy and have fun. I love to see Avery interact with other children and explore what this world has to offer. In typical fashion, we were on the go today and I took photos along the way. (I am "that" mom who takes her camera EVERYWHERE!!!)

We started our day by meeting Jamie and Jadyn at the Ringling Bridge for a quick run. It is 2 miles across and back, but you don't even notice the distance with the gorgeous view. This pic is taken from the top of the bridge. If you look in the distance you can see our house. (haha, like FAR OFF in the distance)
Stop for the kids to swaps snacks and get back at it.

Exercise? Done. Now time to play in the fountains at the marina. Whew, its HOT out there.

"Becca, would you like a bite of YOUR McFlurry." He somehow confiscated her McFlurry and of course, she gladly hands it over.

"Avery, you have these girls eating out of your hands at such a young age. What happens in 15 years from now, I CAN'T IMAGINE." thinks mommy

Happy Cinco De Mayo friends. Today is a great day. This marks the anniversary of Rico and I "dating". Yes, this day, several years back, we started "dating." What made the difference in "being friends" to "seeing each other" to "dating"??? Who knows??? In fact, it seems like FOREVER ago that we were "dating". Anyhow, who really celebrates their "boyfriend/girlfriend status" anniversary when you've been married almost 5 years and have a child? We don't, but, on the other hand we kinda do. See, we just gather all excuses possible to have a Mexican Fiesta. Rico is in fact Mexican, we both LOVE authentic Mexican food, we've been known to enjoy a Corona or two and now we have EVERY reason in the world to have that Mexican Fiesta we both love. So, what are the Alcalas doing tonight? You guessed it: We are having a Mexican Fiesta complete with chips and guacamole, chicken enchiladas and of course, Coronas with lime. Cheers to great food, cold beer and lots of laps in the pool on this hot and sunny Florida day!!!

This morning I woke up and thought, "hmmm, I need to update our blog, but I don't have any new pics to post and write about." I thought to myself, I have SO much to be thankful for and that should something to post about in itself. Each day I am reminded in some way or another of how much I have to be thankful for. Sometimes it is clear and plain as day, sometimes it's something I figure out after that day is over and sometimes I see it through others around me. There are even days that can be more of a "bad" day, then a "good" day, but in the end, I still have so much to be thankful for and its never really "that bad."

Without babbling I will list a few things that I am thankful for: 1) my husband who truly treats me like a princess. He appreciates and notices the small things such as a home cooked meal, a clean house or a new color of toe nail polish I am wearing. He works hard to support our family while keeping Avery and me home. In the meantime, he never comes home in a bad mood or stressed out and tackles each day with 100% effort. 2) Our son; who is the apple of our eye. He is healthy, happy, HILARIOUS and so much fun to hang out with everyday. He and I are quite the best of buds. 3) My parents; while they live 1200 miles away, we are still as close as we were were 15 years ago when I lived at home under their roof. While I am now married with a family of my own, I still talk to them everyday even if it's just to say "hi. I love you." 4) Our house; while it's small, it's cozy, clean, in a great neighborhood and hey, it isn't flooded in water and we have electricity.

Those are just a FEW of the many things I have to be thankful for. Life is great. I can't complain. I wake up everyday, smile, kiss my hubby, cuddle our son, sip on coffee and look forward to what each day has to offer. Some people like to think "the grass is always greener on the other side" I like to think "enjoy the grass we have, there may not even be grass on the other side." I have learned that there will always be someone richer than you and poorer than you. There will always be someone skinnier than you and fatter than you. There will always be someone who drives a nicer car than you and someone who drives a car that's not as nice as yours. Can't we all just be thankful for what we have? If there's something you don't have that you want.....hey, talk to the big guy upstairs. Maybe, just maybe he can help ya out!!!

Disney World (M&P Visit Part V)

After a 6:30 wake-up call from Mickey Mouse we were ready to visit the Magic Kingdom in Disney World. To summarize what a great trip we ALL had, I will say this: The weather was PERFECT, the crowd was minimal and the lines were NOTHING. It had been almost 20 years since Mimi and Papa had been to Disney World, 9 years since Rico and I had been to Disney World and this was Avery's 1st trip to Disney. We arrived at the park right when it opened and stayed until 7:00 at night. We each had a map of the park and knew exactly where we wanted to go and what we wanted to do. At the end of the day we all agreed that we felt like we saw EVERYTHING we wanted to see and definately got our moneys worth. I will do my best to recap what photos are what, based on my memory.

We have arrived at Disney World and are waiting to take the ferry across the water to the Magic Kingdom.

The end of the day, finishing our souvenier shopping, potty break, then it's time to head home. While Avery waits on us he is entertained by a lady with rings on Main Street.

Whew, what a great day. Time to head back to the resort. We had an awesome time and these will be memories we always remember. Thanks for such a good time Mickey Mouse.

Downtown Disney (M&P Visit Part IV)

After a nice, relaxing day at the pool we were all STARVING. We were ready to eat and explore Dowtown Disney. There is PLENTY to do in the Orlando area and tons of different places to check out.

"Fishy, fishy," Avery is CONVINCED that EVERY body of water has "fishies" in it.

Disclaimer: you had to be there to think it was funny. However, Ill share the story. We were standing by a bush waiting on our table for dinner and I told Avery to "strike a pose". He jumped in front of the bush and this is what we got......... (reread disclaimer if necessary)

Mike Ditca's Runaway Beach Resort (M&P Visit Part III)

Monday night while Mimi and Papa were here Mickey Mouse called and said he wanted to see us. So, we packed a small suitcase and went to Orlando for a few days. Ok, Mickey Mouse didn't really call us, we had the whole trip planned out from start to finish. Anyhow, our first day was spent at Mike Ditca's Runaway Beach resort (comes highly recommended by our dear friend Carol who has stayed there several times.) So, we made reservations to stay there and were SUPER impressed. Beautiful resort, great pool(s), tiki bar at the poolside, HUGE suites and only a 3 minute drive to Disney. The weather was beautiful on Tuesday. It was a perfect day to lounge by the heated pool, eat lunch at the poolside and of course enjoy a beer or two.

Brief history: Last summer + Avery + Po0l = NO INTEREST
This year + Avery + Pool = We COULD NOT get him OUT of the pool.

The New Sandbox!!! (M&P Visit Part II)

Every kid needs a sandbox, right? Well, that's what we thought. But then we also thought "we have the biggest sandbox in the world if we just drive 10 miles West (to the beach)." However, we don't have time to go to the beach EVERYDAY. Who better to build a sandbox for Triple A then Papa, himself. We went to home depot, bought the supplies, 200lbs of sand and off to build a sandbox we were. (More like, Papa built the sandbox while we all "supervised")

The finished product, already in action. Not sure who likes it more, Avery or Becca and Brianna?

This is sooo much fun. I think I'm gonna have to drag him away at night time.

Mimi and Papa's Visit Part I

As I mentioned earlier in a previous post, Mimi and Papa flew to Florida for 10 days for a much needed visit. We always do as much or as little as we want while they are here, but most of all, we ALWAYS have fun. Our family motto has always been "As long as YOU are doing what YOU want to be doing." Some days we will be on the go from sun-up to sun-down and some days we just lay low. Anyhow, below are some "miscellaneous" pictures that were taken while they were here. I'll call them "miscellaneous" because they really have no certain order and are snaps from different days.

Our neighbors (yes, the girls I always mention on the blog) are homeschooled. While we try our best NOT to disturb them, sometimes we just can't help it and of course, they welcome the disturbance. So, while we were playing outside they came over and schooled in our garage. Avery stands by trying to explain the intricacies of chemistry. "Listen up girls, Im only gonna tell you this once."

Avery draws on his dry-erase board the formula for hydrogen peroxide. The girls take very detailed notes of what he is teaching.

Teaching is a hard and tiresome job. "I must rest with Papa while I drink my milk. Whew, long day."

"Ok, no more rest needed. I wanna go ride my bike." Its about 9:00 and Avery has us all outside playing. Why not? Mimi and Papa are here!!!

I said that some days we are "on the go from sun-up to sun-down." This was one of those days, literally.

Middle of the day beer break!!! It's 5:00 somewhere.

It seems as though it has been forever since I have posted on our Family Blog. I am trying to post updates on a more regular basis, but, as we all know life gets busy and before we know it, the day is gone. The last few days at the Alcala house have been busy, but SUPER FABULOUS!!! Mimi and Papa are visiting from Illinois and it seems time goes by even quicker when they're here. This just proves that "Time flies when you're having fun." It is times like this where we wish we could "slow the clock down." Luckily, we live in a beautiful city that has bunches to offer and tons to do. It seems we never struggle to find things to do and truly enjoy spending time together, whether it be lounging on the beach, watching a movie, going out to eat or playing a game of cards while enjoying a cocktail.

They arrived last Thursday, April 15th and depart this Saturday, April 24th. Since their arrival we have been to the beach, played in the water fountains at the marina, shopped, gone out to eat, Rico and Papa have gone golfing, Papa built Avery a sandbox, Mom and I did some more shopping, and last but CERTAINLY not least, we went to Orlando for 2 days where we ventured to Disney World (that's an ENTIRE post of its own.) Needless to say, there are tons of pictures (to be posted soon) and tons of memories that will carry on forever. Cheers to GREAT times with family.

So, after we met Thomas the Train and spent the day with him, we had to go home and rest up as we were having a party at night to celebrate with the rest of Avery's friends. 4:00 came around and he was rested up and ready to PARTAY again.

Sunday, April 11th we celebrated Avery's 2nd birthday. His actual birthday was April 10th, but we had the big bash on Sunday. We started off by taking him to meet Thomas the Train in Parrish, Florida. He is a HUGE "Thomas" Fan and thought he would LOVE to meet him in person. We brought along Avery's 2 big sisters (our neighbor girls Rebecca and Brianna and their mom, Ivette) These girls are literally, like big sisters. They have watched Avery grow up since day one. We had a great time. We took a ride on Thomas, played mini-golf, ate TONS of healthy, carnival food, played in the sand, bounced in the bounce house and listened to great music. It was a fun filled day had by all.

Watch out Phil (Mickelson) here comes your competition. (notice I didn't say Tiger Woods)

This sandbox was PURE enjoyment for him. He would have stayed here for HOURS...if we let him.

We were given an UNLIMITED supply of temporary tattoos. Avery took it upon himself to apply the tattoos to everyone. By the end of the day, Rebecca was COVERED in tattoos.

Easter Day

Easter Bunny found us!!! Yes, he did. Last year, Avery's birthday fell on Good Friday which meant Easter was 2 days away from his birthday.... so, it all kinda blended together. This year Easter was 1 week before his birthday, which made it nice to enjoy Easter alone and have 1 week to look forward to his birthday/party. However, this is the first year in 8 years (we have now lived in Florida for 8 years) that we have spent Easter WITHOUT Mimi and Papa. So, it seemed odd to wake up Easter morning without their great company. But, we made do. No worries, Mimi and Papa will be here in one week. We'll make up for it then.

Spring Training Baseball!!!

A great day at the ball park, yes it was!!! Sarasota is now where the Baltimore Orioles hold their spring training. All the years past it has been the spring training home of the Cinncinnati Reds, who are now in Arizona. Lucky for us, we lost one team to gain another team, who has in fact FILLED the stands at Ed Smith Stadium. Anyhow, last Tuesday while Rico's cousin and his girlfriend were in town, we went to one of the games where the seats were full, the sun was shining, the beer was cold and hey, who can beat first base seats, 3 rows up from the field???

Well, Avery is almost 2. WHAT??? 2 years old, already? Boy, do kids grow up fast? This means its time to get MORE pictures taken. In the past, we have always gone to Sears for pictures and for the most part, I have been satisfied with the pictures there. However, the last few times they have been terrible pictures. (I won't babble on as to why they are terrible). Anyhow, a very close friend of mine has recently purchased a fancy camera that she can do all kinds of fancy things with. She graciously offered to come along to the park yesterday and snap some shots of our little toddler. Below are some of the proofs. She did great. We have some cropping to do and then they go to press. Thanks, Carol for an easy, stress-free, successful photo session.....oh, and our little model cooperated too!!! Take a look and enjoy.

A child's laughter is the BEST!!! While playing with Avery's BFF the other day, we got to witness some of the cutest interaction between Jadyn and Avery. Unfortunately, we only caught the last few seconds on video, but it is definately worth a watch. Sometimes I would like to jump inside the mind of a toddler and just "SEE" what goes through their minds. Oh, to be a kid again.....

Back again, trying to add more photos to the blog and give a quick update, but STILL having problems uploading photos to where they AREN'T microscopic. Not sure why, one day, the photos went from one size to a smaller size. Anyhow, we just celebrated Rico's birthday. We didn't do anything too fancy (per his request), so we just went to dinner with some friends followed by a few cocktails afterwards.
